As the price of electricity goes up (again) it is important to keep tabs of costs and to be able to calculate energy consumption of various electronic equipment.

A fridge (refrigerator), on average, uses approximately 540 - 750 W (watts), and is "on" and running approximately 8 hours per day. Converting this to kWh (kilowatt hour) consumption requires dividing the wattage by 1000, and multiplying by 8 hours, which equals 4.32 - 5.6, or rounded to betwen 4 - 6 kWh per day.

  2. Enter the number of hours per day it is in use,
  3. Click on "Calculate" to get the kWh (kilo Watt hour) per day, month or year, usage
  4. Once you have worked out your total kW usage, you can multiply by your cost per kW (depends on many things - in a house, complex, town or country and so on)

Energy consumption calculation

The energy E in kilowatt-hours (kWh) per day is equal to the power P in watts (W) times number of usage hours per day t divided by 1000 watts per kilowatt:

E(kWh/day) = P(W) × t(h/day) / 1000(W/kW)
